Shima Sushi - San Jose
Had a chance to do some take-out from this restaurant last week. They had a good deal and wide array of bento options for lunch. Their bento meals run around $9.99 and it includes miso soup, salad and rice and quite an amount of dish (you get to pick two out of 12 options). I chose spicy chicken and salmon teriyaki.
They use styrofoam for packaging and this case a bunch of them since the main package could only fit rice, spicy chicken and edamame. Second smaller box had the salmon teriyaki on bed of shredded cabbage with sweet dark sauce. Another smaller box had shredded iceberg lettuce mix and a small tub of miso salad dressing. Oh..and last another smaller rounded container with miso soup.
Now let's talk about the quality of the food. I found the dishes pretty bland. The spicy chicken looked very nice with red chilli pieces and chilli oil around it. But that's about it. It felt a bit greasy but bland.
The salmon teriyaki was good but of course they shouldn't mess up on this one since it's pretty simple. The salad dressing was flat - not tangy so it didn't give the fresh feeling when you're eating the salad. The miso soup actually came with a few strands of enoki mushroom so that was a bit different.
All in all I wasn't impressed with the food. Most likely won't be going back in the future.
