Wee Nam Kee Singaporean Chicken Rice - Ginza, Tokyo - Japan

If you noticed the title and wondering why would I post about Singaporean chicken rice when my travel was in Japan. Yes, both me and hubby were surprised too that we ran into a restaurant that served Singaporean style chicken rice. And to make it even more surprising the taste was just as good as the one in Singapore !

So we arrived in Ginza and had no plans on where to go for lunch. Ginza was a last minute change of itinerary. So I didn't have time to research for food in Ginza. We happened to walk pass Exit Melsa which was a shopping mall but we did see some restaurants on 7th and 8th floor. We decided to go up and check it out. I didn't really pay attention to the pictures posted inside the elevator since most of the characters were kanji. But hubby and his sharp eyes were trained on spotting chicken rice since that's his fave food. He pointed it out to me so we went straight to 7th floor to look for the restaurant.

I was a bit skeptical to begin with. We had quite a few experience with chicken rice back in the US where the quality was below par. But when we found the restaurant we saw this huge Singapore flag along with the name of the restaurant in English. We walked in and were seated almost immediately. It's close to lunch time so the restaurant was quite full.

Other than steam chicken on the menu they also offer roast chicken with either rice or noodle combination. Hubby chose steam chicken with rice combo and I went for roast chicken with noodle combo. The menu offered other Singaporean specialty dishes like chili prawn, golden prawn and sambal kang kong.

A good chicken rice also depends on the chili sauce used. In this case the chili sauce was just perfect with the chili and ginger served separately. Instead of serving it on the little saucer, the chili sauce was left in a sauce container on the table for us to help ourselves with.

The chicken with rice combo was served with a bowl of soup on the side. The rice was fragrant and not too oily. The chicken was boneless just as how it is in Singapore. The noodle was cooked just right and not too soft. It went well with the roast chicken. And the ginger chili sauce was just perfect with the chicken.

We were both happy with the lunch. Total spent 2100 yen (about USD 19).
