Yayoi - Osaka, Japan

Also known as Yayoi-ken. Yayoi serves set menu also known as teishoku. We actually didn't know this whole teishoku until we sat down and saw the menu. This restaurant happened to be located on our way to the Osaka station. One morning we decided to stop by and looked at the window display and was surprised to see the prices. We kept that as our back up plan for dinner since it's so close to our apartment.

The menu was sort of small. We missed our veggies intake since it's been a few days on the trip already. This restaurant only offered 1 veggie dish in the form of stir fry veggie mix with pork. I ordered a large size so we could share. Hubby opted for the stir fry ginger pork.

Back to teishoku which is classic Japanese set meal. Teishoku usually consisted a bowl of rice and a main dish with 1 soup and maybe another side dish. So my order of the stir fry veggie came with a bowl of rice, miso soup and a piece of plain tofu. Hubby's stir fry pork came with a side of salad, a bowl of rice and miso soup. And everything tasted so yummy.

Btw, just like a lot of restaurants in Japan, when we first entered the restaurant we were faced with vending machine. No worries, just look for the "English" option usually on the right hand corner. After that everything was pretty self explanatory. We got 2 tickets and a waitress greeted us and pointed us to an empty table. We handed her our tickets and she tore half of it and gave us back the other half.

And all of those cost JPY1420 (about US$13). Considering the look and ambience of the restaurant I was actually surprised at the price. And best of all, no tipping.
