Revisited : Thai Chili Express, San Jose
Found this tiny place a couple of months ago. We went back last weekend but was refused entrance due to a private party being held. Wow. What an idea. I didn't know it's possible.
Anyhow, so we went for lunch today. When we got there it was hardly 12 pm. There were a few guys in front of us doing take out. I got my spicy tofu with rice. Hubby ordered his pad kee mao. We shared a Thai ice tea.
Hubby's pad kee mao order only took about five minutes. Then we started digging in. As we sat there eating, more and more people came in for their lunches. And when we left there was a long line out the door. I am glad that the words were out that the food there was great and price was decent.
Let's talk about the food we had today. My spicy tofu was like a stir fry tofu with sweet and spicy sauce. The sauce tasted like namya curry paste with that familiar smell of lesser galangal (?). Though named spicy, it's not too spicy. It had a nice combination of sweet and a bit spice.
Hubby's pad kee mao was a complete different level of spiciness. The lady asked him the level of spiciness he wanted and he requested it to be spicy. Most of the Thai restaurants we have been to normally didn't make it spicy. So we were surprised when the pad kee mao (also known as drunken noodle) came out really spicy. We still enjoyed it though. But beware when ordering it spicy.
