Ramen Haruki - Tokyo Akasaka, Japan

- Dipping ramen with topping on the side -
Just happened to walk pass this ramen restaurant when we were on the way to Hie shrine. It's about lunch time and since we had a very light breakfast we couldn't wait for the restaurant to open at 11.

We waited for about 5 minutes while checking out other options in the neighborhood. When we came back there was maybe another customer in the store. There was a vending machine by the door but everything was in Japanese. It's one of those old style vending machine with buttons and no pictures.

Then the waitress came to rescue. She told us to sit and gave us a picture menu. Woah everything on it looked delicious. We finally decided on spicy tsukemen (dipping ramen) for me and spicy miso ramen for hubby. We gave our cash to the waitress and she operated the machine for us. Arigato gozaimasu !

My dipping ramen came with a separate tray of topping consisted of sliced pork, half a hard boiled egg, bamboo shoot, sheet of nori, green onion and black pepper. The noodle was thick almost squarish and the dipping broth was thick and deep flavor. I tasted hint of fish in the broth. The size was just right for me. Anything more would have been too much. I was glad that there was option for amount of noodle. It would be good for big eater to pick more amount of noodle. And for me it's just right so there was no waste.

Hubby's miso ramen was very fragrant with a clear smell of garlic. Yum ! The noodle was also on the thick side. He had bean sprout and corn as additional topping other than the sliced pork. The broth was flavorful and went well with the noodle.

That was one memorable lunch since it was our first ramen meal in Japan.
