Getting Our Food from a Japanese Department Store
Last year the first time we encountered food at a basement floor of a department store in Osaka we were in awed. Imagine beautiful cake, different types of bread, sushi, yakitori, mochi, tempura, etc all in one floor. One thing we learnt was not to go there hungry. Very dangerous.
One could have a very decent meal when getting food there. From appetizer, main meal to dessert. Well, we didn't quite get the appetizer but we got the mail meal and dessert most of the time. At Odawara, we got our food from Lusca Odawara. This time in Sapporo, we found Mitsukoshi Department Store which also offered good deals just before end of day.
I am not sure if it's pretty common but we have seen it quite a couple of times already. Department store's food would be offered at discounted price around 6:30 pm every day. Especially the fresh seafood. I guess mainly because it wouldn't be considered fresh the next day. But in that fresh seafood category includes sushi. Though sushi is not as deeply discounted.
We went to Mitsukoshi twice during our stay in Sapporo. First time we got some tuna roll and a pack of assorted sushi that had JPY200 discount (USD 1.81). Second time we got some inari sushi and a few other dishes to complete the meal. Both meals were satisfying.
And to complete the meal we normally got our dessert from either one of the konbinis (convenient store e.g. 7 Eleven, Family Mart or Lawson). But in Sapporo we stayed so close to Donquijote which is another department store so we often swing by to get snacks and breakfast.
