Famosa Chicken Rice Ball - Malacca, Malaysia

This was our first meal in Malacca, Malaysia. My plan was to have lunch at Kedai Kopi Chungwah which is popular for the chicken rice ball, one of the local Malacca dish. We got there during lunch time and there was a long line. The day was hot and sun was burning. And we were starving.

I looked around looking for alternative. I would have gone in a KFC or McDonald if there were one in the area. Yup that desperate ! But hey there was another chicken rice ball restaurant almost across from it. And even better there was no line. So we waited a bit for them to clear up a table and we were seated almost immediately. What a relief.

It's a chicken rice ball restaurant so we must order that. And of course chicken to go with the rice ball. Additionally we got steam tofu with soy sauce, stir fry bean sprout and roast pork. I know we ordered a bit more because we were that hungry.

The rice ball was okay. It's like soft rice made into ball maybe with additional chicken broth/chicken fat ? But it wasn't very flavorful, almost plain. The steam chicken was wonderful. Very juicy. The pork on the other hand was cut too thick and became chewy. The tofu was just plain tofu with soy sauce and green onion as topping. Simple. Stir fry bean sprout was fine. Crunchy and refreshing.

Later on I found out that this Famosa Chicken Rice Ball has a few other locations outside Jonker Street as well. Not sure if it's franchised.
