Nyonya Suan - Malacca, Malaysia

One thing we should remember if we ever decided to visit Malacca again is to come on Friday. Jonker Street is popular for its night market on Fridays and Saturdays. Most visitors would try to make it in for that. I knew about it but unfortunately those days didn't fit our schedule so we ended up arriving on Monday.

Jonker Street on regular days is very slow. I figured that's the reason why the restaurant we had our eyes on closed early. That's when we decided to walk around and checked out what else is available. And we came across this nyonya cuisine restaurant at the end of Jonker Street. It was pretty early in the evening so there was nobody in.

Nyonya cuisine is a combination of Malay and Chinese cuisine. It has lots of stir fry dishes but not quite the chinese way. We ordered stir fry bok choy, napa cabbage with black wood ear, soy sauce tofu and spicy squid. The stir fries were very similar to what we would have cooked at home. Not too oily and not very high on MSG. The spicy squid though looked nice and spicy but it wasn't spicy.

All in all it was a good meal. Satisfying without overly too full because most dishes were vegetable dishes.
