Green Lemongrass - Richmond, BC

This restaurant was recommended by our friend for our get together place. When we got there on a Sunday afternoon it was pretty full. There was some outdoor seating but it was a bit wet outside so we went in and got a table by the window.

The menu was surprisingly pretty big. I ordered chicken pho and hubby ordered an egg noodle with seafood and pork. Our friends ordered vermicelli with grilled chicken and beef noodle soup. We shared fried spring roll and Vietnamese pan fried rice cake. Later on we added 2 hot drip coffee.

My chicken pho as usual didn't taste like how I think chicken pho should taste like. Another disappointment. The broth tasted more like maybe combination of pork and chicken broth. Not purely chicken broth. The chicken meat they used was breast meat so it was a bit dry.

Hubby's egg noodle dish was flat egg noodle with some sweet dark sauce. The pork was thinly sliced but not seasoned. There was some pieces of prawn and squid. The broth that came separately got pieces of carrot and tasted like vegetable broth. The noodle was not bad but I think it didn't quite go with the veggie broth.

The fried spring roll was just okay in my opinion. It was freshly fried but the flavor was not quite strong. The bot chien (pan fried rice cake) came with pieces of rice cake held together with egg around it like an omelet. But I think the rice cake was cut to thin and deep fried too long making it almost crispy. It was missing salted daikon pieces. The strands of carrot and papaya that came with it was a nice texture to complement the omelet but I think it tasted better if it was served with pickle shredded daikon/carrot.

We tasted the grilled chicken that our friend ordered with his vermicelli. The chicken was well marinated and juicy. So I guess that was their strength. We probably just ordered wrong items.
