Brown's Social House Semiahmoo - Whiterock, BC
I never heard of this restaurant before even though hubby said they have many locations. It's similar to Cactus Club Cafe with varieties menu. The one we went to is at Semiahmoo Shopping Center just a couple of blocks away from White Rock water front. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we got there around 12. They have some outdoor covered patio area which looked pretty comfortable. It was a nice sunny day so we decided to sit there.
We had my father-in-law with us that day so we figured let's order a few things and shared. He normally didn't eat much and liked to try a bit of everything. So we decided to get yam fries, chicken quesadilla, dragon bowl and fish tacos. Hubby got a ginger beer and father-in-law got his coffee.
Yam fries was deep fried sweet potato with coarse salt on it. The salt addition gave the fries a bit savory taste which I thought was perfect. It was served with some sort of mayo sriracha sauce.
Chicken quesadilla came with a small container of salsa, guacamole and sour cream. There were at least 7-8 pieces cut from half fold of a big size tortilla. Other than chicken meat, quesadilla also had cheese, black bean and a hint of heat from jalapeno. I like quesadilla so I loved this combination.
The Baja fish tacos came with 2 soft shell tacos with fried fish and generous amount of shredded veggies and pico de gallo. It's not described on the menu what type of fish used. I can't quite tell but it didn't seem like halibut.
Dragon bowl was a simple rice bowl with teriyakin chicken topping. I think what made it different was the veggie was wok fired. I wasn't quite sure what it meant. Maybe high heat stir fry ? The veggies did have the wok hey smell which usually is the result of high heat stir fry. The combination of veggies, chicken with tanginess of the pickled shredded cabbage was very refreshing.
All in all we enjoyed the food and the very relaxing atmosphere at Brown's.
