Gyo Para - Vancouver
When we walked in on a Sunday afternoon the place was quiet. There was another table. But apparently they just finished their meals. It was still early in the afternoon. And I guess people sort of lazying out there since it was a warm Sunday. Weather wise may not be the best weather for ramen but heck any weather is suitable for a good bowl of ramen.
I was contemplating on their special of cold tantan ramen. But in the end I opted for extra spicy regular tantan men. Hubby ordered spicy kara miso ramen. And just because one of the specialty of the restaurant is actually their gyoza, we just had to give that a try too.
Now the verdict. The tantan ramen uses medium size noodle and cooked to right firmness. The broth was pretty thick and rich. I have tried making tantan men before and the recipe called for sesame but I think this one actually used peanuts that's why the waitress asked if I have any food allergy. The broth was pretty spicy but not too salty. Though in the beginning the broth looked a bit oily but it didn't taste greasy.
The kara miso ramen also had a bit oily looked on its broth but didn't taste greasy. The sodium level was just right with a nice hint of heat. The noodle was medium size as well. For miso ramen the broth tasted pretty light.
Our original gyoza had six pieces of golden brown gyoza. The gyoza was dry and a bit crispy on one side but juicy inside. The filling had the right level of saltiness so when we dip it into the sauce it wasn't too salty. Perfect.
And if you think the bowl of noodle didn't give you enough carb and you still have room in your tummy and leftover broth on your bowl, just order another order of noodle.
