Congee Noodle Delight - Vancouver, BC

Introduced by our friend to this place when we met up for lunch. It is located inside the International Village just off Stadium Chinatown Skytrain station. We sat at a table facing the inside of the mall. I like the idea of open seating facing the mall gives a more open feeling though the restaurant space is sort of small.

We ordered pork and preserved egg congee from their wide array selection of congee (rice porridge). I grew up having congee with chinese donut (yu tiao 油条).So I ordered one chinese donut to go with the porridge. We also got an order of Hong Kong style wonton noodle soup and Yang Chow style fried rice. This is a simple Asian style meal with no shortage of carbs !

The restaurant style congee is always sticky and starchy with no apparent grain of rice. But I guess that’s what congee is. This one was no different except quite a generous amount of preserved egg pieces here and there. Though the pork was dried and a bit gamey. I think they should have used minced pork instead. The Chinese donut came all warmed up and cut up. Just waited to be dunk into the congee.

The wonton noodle soup came with like five wonton packed round with shrimp and minced pork. The noodle used was very tiny thin noodle. I am surprised that the noodle still has its bounce and not at all soggy. Pretty good. Just need a bit chili sauce to go with it.

The most impressive I think was the fried rice. It was massive size easily fill up three people. With all the carbs we had already, we had to get that one packed to go. It was delicious with the wok hei. It had small shrimp, green onions and chopped up pork pieces.
