Peaceful Restaurant - Vancouver, BC
This restaurant has a few locations and the one we went to was the newer location on Kingsway. Hubby chose that because Google said less wait time for Sunday. And it was so true. We got there around 1 pm and there were maybe 2 tables occupied. But our timing was perfect, as soon as we sat down, there was a big group of 15 people came in.
We did a take out from this restaurant before which consisted of yang chow fried rice and beef roll. The fried rice was surprisingly made with red rice. Healthier maybe ? The flavor was not bad. Not too oily and flavorful. The beef roll was good with some sweet sauce and noticeable amount of beef along with green onion.
This location was bigger than the location on Broadway. It's also newer as I think it may have taken over a produce store before that used to be in the area. The kitchen was behind a clear glass. Looked clean and in order.
We ordered a few items from the signature dimsum menu : pan fried pork buns (生煎包), peacefull beef roll (牛肉卷饼), spicy and tangy dumplings (酸湯水餃), cumin beef & flatbread (孜然牛夾餅) and threw in a fried rice noodle (char kway teow 乾炒牛河).
Food came out relatively fast. The fried noodle and the beef roll came out first. We were hungry so without further a do we dug in. The noodle looked shiny with oil. But upon tasting I found it a bit bland. The beef was tender though.
The pan fried pork buns were small size pork buns with browned bottom because they were pan fried before serving. The buns were soft and the pork inside was juicy. In contrast to our prior experience with fried pork buns before where the buns were tough and hard. One is not enough when eating these !
The spicy and tangy dumplings were just like it's name. Spicy and tangy. What makes them different was the sauce actually was a whole lot - almost like soup. I actually like sipping on them together when eating the dumplings. Reminded me of the hot and sour soup. If only it wasn't as oily then I would have down the whole bowl. Another thing also the spiciness wasn't from the Sichuan peppercorn that leaves numbness to the mouth. That was like plus plus.
The last dish that came out was the cumin beef on flatbread. The size of the bread was about the size of 6in Subway sandwich. It had plenty of sesame seeds on it and was a bit crunchy outside but not too chewy. The beef was sliced and cooked with cumin and bell pepper. All in all was a great combination between cumin and beef and the bell pepper gave the crunchiness texture.
