Bai Thong Thai Food - Kelowna, BC
We were going to have Thai food for lunch. But by the time we were hungry most restaurants were already closed. It's Tuesday as well so some restaurants were normally close too. We decided to check in for our Airbnb and come back later for take out for dinner.
We brought some rice with us thinking we were going to do barbecue for dinner. Surprisingly Kelowna has more options for Thai food than Richmond. So we decided to go for Thai food take out at this downtown Thai restaurant.
The restaurant was still pretty quiet when we got there around 5:30. It was a Tuesday evening after a strong short storm just passed. So downtown wasn't exactly very busy. There was only one table dining in. We walked in and placed our orders and then walked around downtown to see what other interesting stores were available. Earlier in the day when we arrived we couldn't do that because it was so hot.
We didn't have a proper lunch so we were starving and ordered 3 items. Though one of the items was a misunderstanding but still delicious. We meant to order 1 noodle and 2 dishes. But the noodle turned out to be another dish so we ended up with 3 dishes.
Pad kee mao (drunken noodle) that we know is usually a stir fry noodle with choice of protein. But this one turned out that be without noodle. So it was just stir fry marinated chicken with some veggies like sliced carrot, tomatoes and green beans. Not much of basil as what a pad kee mao dish would have. Tasted wise was wonderful and with enough heat to satisfy our palette without killing us.
Another stir fry is called Pad King - a ginger based mixed veggies stir fry. I liked this one the best. The sauce was a bit gingery and tangy. Very refreshing. We had tofu option for the choice of protein and it went very well with the sliced carrot, green bean, onion and bell pepper.
The last dish we had was green curry with pork. This green curry also came with carrot, bell pepper, eggplant and onion. The broth was thick and rich coconut milk, fragrant and sweet. We asked for all the dishes to be spicy and they made it just perfect.
