Pho Saigon - Delta, BC

It's been a while since we actually ate out. Ever since restaurants opened again for dining in we have been really careful choosing only the one that offers outdoor dining. But it's getting cold now. So we braved ourselves and went for dining in anyway.

I noticed most places followed guidelines set by local health authorities. We were always asked for name and contact number for contact tracing when necessary. It's a great idea hopefully patrons do give their real contact method.

Anyway, so recently we found this place in Delta which we were sort of surprise since we didn't think they'd be any pho in Delta considering that it's a small town. But we went there anyway on a rainy cold day.

As soon as we entered I noticed two separate signs for either dining in or picking up. We waited to be seated and noticed that the menu was posted on the table covered by clear glass. Very smart and efficient. Other places we've been too use one time paper menu which can be costly and not very environmentally friendly.

We ordered a beef noodle soup with beef balls and a vermicelli bowl with bbq pork and spring roll. On after thought we decided to throw in an order of fried banana as dessert.

Our orders came in a decent time. It's passed lunch time actually though the place was still pretty busy. I guess some people do go in later because restaurants have less tables now due to social distancing. The beef noodle soup had broth that was distinct with star anise. The broth wasn't too msg laden and was quite flavorful.

The vermicelli bowl looked just like what I normally order at another pho restaurant. A small bowl of dressing made of fish sauce and lime juice was served on the side to be drizzled onto the vermicelli. I poured almost everything in and the vermicelli still tasted pretty bland. I tasted the dressing separately and it tasted just fine. Then I realized what was the issue. The vermicelli was pretty oily not sure where it came from. I have never had such an oily vermicelli before. Other than that the bbq pork was flavorful and the spring roll tasted fresh.

We ordered a fried banana for dessert. And it was brought to us just as we were finishing up. The small piece of fried banana looked like it has seen better days. We each took turn taking a bite of it. It was pretty much batter. I don't know if it had even a quarter of a banana. Last time I checked the price of 1 banana was hardly $1. And this fried banana cost $4.50 ! So not worth the value nor the quality.
