Mahony's Tavern - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
It's summer time in Vancouver and we have one of those dry and sunny day to be outside. So we decided to be out there and have a bit view to accompany our lunch. This time I randomly pick this place close to water front in the False Creek area. I liked a few items on their menu so we decided to check it out.
By the time we got there it was past lunch time. Just past one o'clock on a weekday. So the place wasn't too busy. We got the last parking spot in front of the establishment. I can only imagine during weekend and summery weather that restaurant must be packed and parking could be an issue.
We requested a spot outdoor and was shown to a shaded table almost to the corner. The view was fabulous and it wasn't too warm outside so it was very pleasant to be outdoor. We didn't take long to order since I knew what we wanted to try and just went ahead with our orders.
From where we sat, we could see the water taxies and the ferries coming in and leaving. Some bigger water taxies some smaller sizes. Very amusing. There must be quite a number of them since I haven't seen the same driver twice. There were a few kayaks coming our way and then away to different direction.
Then our food arrived simultaneously. Smash burger sliders - a platter with three mini burgers on brioche buns. Hubby said the patties were a bit dry. I just loved sliders since they're smaller and we could always have them and then order another item to go with it. 😝
The Five-Ohh pizza was a thin crust pizza. Topping consisted of salsa verde, pulled pork, pineapple salsa, mozzarella and pickled red onion. The color didn't quite pop but the taste was definitely there. Don't judge this pizza by its look. The pickled red onion was tangy and very refreshing. Because it's thin crusted, it didn't feel that heavy either.
The last one on our order was chowder pot pie. This one probably was the highlight of our visit. I don't know what to expect of this one. I thought it would be like a chicken pot pie but then it wasn't. It had the top crust of a pot pie but it was just floating there with no shell. When I tried to cut the pie crust, it was bobbing around. So the name was appropriate, chowder with pie crust topping. The chowder was rich and came with all sort of seafood. Salmon pieces, prawn, white fish and clams.
Recommended for the view and their food. Best enjoyed during warm day with outdoor seating. Didn't order any of their alcoholic beverage but it seemed they offer quite a varieties of drinks.
