Tillamook Creamery - Oregon, US

Tillamook Creamery turned out to our last destination for this trip of Oregon Coast. The following morning we woke up from our hotel room at Lincoln City, Oregon, the rain was pouring strong. It was not drizzling it was raining cats and dogs. By then we decided to cut our trip short and went home.

That left only one itinerary for the day, Tillamook Creamery. It's located about 45 miles or 73 km north of Lincoln City. Took about slightly more than one hour to get there in the not so friendly weather. Traffic luckily was relatively quiet due to the weather.

The creamery was busy though. The main parking lot was pretty packed though it has not spilled over to additional lot yet. The place was easy to find due to it's huge sign and warehouse looking building. Sort of reminded me of IKEA.

As soon as we walked in, to our right was the gift shop. We skipped that and went straight to second floor. There was a small museum like setting with history of the creamery including a corner with video showing processes involved from milk to the creamery, etc. There were two sets of viewing area with big clear glass windows showing the process below. One side was the cheese making and the other side was the packaging. This was just for showing since it's not a real creamery/factory. On one side was the tester area where they featured Colby Jack and smoked black pepper and another type of cheese for tasting that day. They were packaged individually. Cute packaging but seems a bit wasteful in term of packaging. Not sure if it's done that way due to COVID.

After we were done upstairs, we went down to the back of the building where there were two cafeteria setting food concession with a huge dining area. One section sells food and snacks like macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese sandwich. The other sells ice cream. I was tempted to try their grilled cheese sandwich but in the end I settled with the ice cream.

The dining area was pretty packed so we opted to go outside for a bit fresh air. All in all a nice experience. I think it's worth a visit if one is in the area. Good place to try ice cream and snacks.
