Penang : Food Prices Comparison (last part)
This post would be my last post of the food prices comparison in Penang. I split the information into 4 different posts based on location of the food. This last post would cover special items like snacks.
For previous posts, check out part 1, part 2 and part 3.
Of course, every so often, we feel like having food items that are not as common as like rice and dishes. In my case would be occasional mozzarella cheese. It's not that easy to find cheese sticks or even slices. So this one cost almost the same as in the west. RM 16 (USD 3.65).
Me and hubby spent our younger years in South East Asia. It's fascinating for us to visit the wet markets in Penang. Sometimes we stumbled upon a few familiar looking items. In this case we actually visited a night market in the Sungai Dua area. We bought a few items from the dimsum man, some deep fried items and also a soy drink and soy dessert. These items costs a bit more than regular fried noodle. We don't eat them everyday. So I put them under special category. 😁
The picture above was of a cup of freshly made red rice yogurt. Tangy with chewy red rice inside. Cost RM 13 (USD 2.94).
And this last picture was taken when we did a FaceTime call with some friends from the US for Thanksgiving. We went to Jelutong morning market and bought some snacks and also char kway teow (fried rice noodle). Total all those snacks pictured above RM 19 (USD 4.29).
I showed the amount in USD just to give an idea how much each item is in USD. The price in USD may look like a small amount. In the beginning I just brushed it off as "small amount". But after living a few months in Asia I now start to look at prices in a more critical way. Set up budget for our meals and try to stick to it.
