Bella Restaurant - Pantai Cenang, Langkawi, Malaysia
We happened to find this restaurant on our first morning in Langkawi. Me and hubby usually make our simple breakfast at home consisted of eggs, milk and bananas. But staying at Paretto Seaview didn't give us access to any kitchen. So we decided to go out for a walk and see what we could find. Having been in Penang before, we noticed a lot of places open early for simple breakfast like hot drinks, toast and eggs.
This tiny restaurant was pretty busy when we got there. The only table available was by the sidewalk so that's where we sat. We went and placed our orders at the counter not knowing that they do take orders at the table. 😁
We ordered soto (clear broth with noodle and shredded chicken) and laksa (coconut based broth with noodles, fish cake and prawn). Hubby got a big size teh tarik (frothy black tea and milk). The soto was different than Indonesian soto ayam Madura which usually has more of a yellow broth from turmeric. This soto has totally clear broth with broken vermicelli and pieces of rice cake. There was some shredded chicken and topped off with crunchy fried peanuts.
The laksa was totally different from a few style of laksa that we known off. I guess this laksa was closer to assam laksa from Penang which is usually made with mackerel fish and tamarind. Though this laksa looked like it had some tamarind in it but the taste was not very tangy and lacking topping like pineapple and lettuce. Not very impressed with the laksa either.
That day we expected a late lunch since we were waiting for the other family members to arrive. So I decided to order scrambled egg set. The scramble egg set came with two pieces of toast, a small piece of butter, one sausage and baked beans. That seemed to be a winner. From then on, we stayed away from soto and laksa. 😉
