International Gourmet Buffet - San Jose

Updated 12/18/2011 We passed by about a month ago and this place has already been closed down. ----------------------------------------- This establishment opened about more than one month ago. We passed by one day when we we were going to Ross/Target in the same shopping mall (The Plant). At that time they were not open yet and we couldn't wait for it to open. When it finally opened, their reviews on Yelp weren't convincing so our curiosity kinda ebbed away. Then last week, hubby won a free meal voucher for two for this restaurant and we got excited to have a chance to try it. From reviews on Yelp, patrons were complaining about the price that was too expensive for the selections available. The first thing we noticed when we got there was the Sunday Brunch for $12.99. Kosher meal from Singapore Airlines

Learning fom my previous experience flying with Singapore Airlines, I decided to order a special meals this time. If you're picking the special meals for either religious or dietary reason, it would be a lot easier to decide. But for me it was a bit harder since I was doing it for no other reason other than trying it out. So I finally decided on kosher meals. Mind you, the special meals options will stay with you for the whole trip (either outbound or inbound). I was going to apply the special meals for only the SFO-HK leg but nope..I ended up having it all the way to Jakarta. I was too sleepy when the flight attendant brought me the sealed pack of my supper. I didn't quite comprehend what he was telling me. Later on the next meal, a different flight attendant again brought me a sealed pack and asked me to break it open. It was way early in the flight to serve meal. But turned out that he only wanted me to break open the seal myself so he could warm it up later on. From S

Jakson Curry - Takayama, Japan

Takayama is popular for its hida beef which was supposedly better than Kobe beef. So the must try list that I compiled mostly included hida beef as the ingredient. One of the restaurant that I wanted to try was actually a ramen restaurant. But unfortunately it was closed for the day. So we decided on a curry restaurant - Jakson Curry. The place was located on one of the street of Takayama, far from other shops or restaurants. It was a tiny restaurant with a few bar seatings, one tatami table and maybe another regular table in the back. I think total customers couldn't be more than 15. When we walked in there were some people who just left. So we took the bar seats. As usual they tried to speak Japanese to us but then realized that we don't speak Japanese. The owner/chef then explained in English to us that they only served curry - beef and mushroom curry. He even told us the price too.
