Talaga Sampireun - Bogor, Indonesia

One of the popular Sundanese food chain restaurant is Talaga Sampireun. The name is in Sundanese, meaning stop by house. Maybe it's more like a stopping place for travelers. That's my two cents. 😁

I have been to another location closer to Jakarta. They offer quite a varieties of food. From vegetable, chicken, satay to seafood. All in different way of cooking. If deep fried isn't your cup of tea, select the barbecue or stew.

We stopped by the Vimala Hills location on our recent trip to Bogor. This location is huge with decent amount of parking space. For a different experience, ask to be seated at one of their "saungs". Saung is a Sundanese word meaning little house or hut.

To get to the "saungs", we were lead to pass tables by the fish pond then down a set of stairs to the lower part of the back of the restaurant. This part is actually hidden from the entrance of the restaurant. As we reached the lower part of the restaurant we could see row of "saungs". Most of them could fit up to eight people.

Sitting in the saung also felt very private. It's like having a private room. The bushes and plants around made the air felt fresher. The breeze also felt cooler. 😁 You could even lie down after your meal. 😂

We ordered quite a few items. Ones that stood out were sate jamur (mushroom satay), gurame sambal mangga (deep fried gurame fish with mango chili sauce), tahu isi (stuffed fried tofu). For dessert, try bika panggang which is like a cake made with flour and coconut milk with shredded coconut stuffing.
