Jin Lu Restaurant 金鹿 ภัตตาคารจินลู่ - Chiangrai, Thailand

Our friends found out this new Chinese restaurant in town and have been meaning to give it a try. Finally we had a chance to check it out the past long weekend. It's Thai Mother's Day ! We got there just at 6 pm and it was pretty full already.

We got a small table more suitable for three people. But at least it's in the air conditioned area of the restaurant. Through the air conditioned area there is an open air smoking section. Possibly private room as well.

The menu wasn't very big and we went through it and placed our orders. Among the orders were Yangchow fried rice, chow mein, pork belly with preserved vegetables, etc. It took a while for us to get our orders. Not sure whether the kitchen was still catching up with the big group orders or they were just behind. But when the dishes came out they were almost back to back. Except the waitress forgot one of our orders.

Among the dishes and three dimsum items that we ordered, the one that stood out for me was Yangchow fried rice. It had the wok hei smell. That burnt smell that could only be achieved with high heat cooking. I think it's a must for chinese fried rice. But Yangchow fried rice didn't use shrimp and char siu instead they used some sort of salty ham (?).

Others in our group liked the stir fry eggplant with minced pork. I didn't try that since I'm avoiding eggplant. The stir fry green beans was also good and executed perfectly. Another fish dish was also yummy but that dish was actually a Thai dish!

The dimsum were below average. The soup dumpling's skin was too thick. The shumai came last since the waitress forgot our order so that seemed a bit undercooked.

The worst was probably the pork belly with preserved vegetables. It's too salty to be enjoyed by itself.
