Thais like to eat rice porridge for dinner with dishes. We have been to a few restaurants that serve rice porridge and of course rice as well with dishes. I guess coming from Indonesia this type of practice is pretty common. Most Asians would have steam rice with dishes. But I noticed that our friends normally do noodle soups for lunches and rice porridge for dinner. Maybe it's personal preference ?

If rice porridge isn't your cup of tea, you could always order steam rice. On their English menu, they had a section called "Quick and Easy" where you could just have stir fry items on top of rice. Simple for one person. Or if you don't want to have to order a dish.

Our group mostly ordered porridge and a few vegetable dishes and some seafood dishes. Unlike Hong Kong congee which is thick and gooey. Thai rice porridge is rice with water almost separated. The rice is quite intact. 😂 I can see my dad complaining of this porridge as not thick enough.

We ordered stir fry chinese broccoli with salted fish, stir fry morning glory (kang kung) and stir fry eggplant. All were good. We also had squid cooked in some sort of curry sauce and then another seafood dish cooked in spices. Last but not least we had steam egg custard. Not sure if that's the correct dish name. It's basically beaten egg mixed with spices and steamed until it's set. This version had some tiny minced carrot.
