Enjoying Jim Jum in Hua Hin - Hua Hin, Thailand
What is jim jum ? It's a Thai hotpot from the Isan region. Unline other hotpot (that I known of) which is usually served on a metal pot, this jim jum is served on a clay pot and powered with charcoal. The top portion came with a pot of water (?) on top of a charcoal stove bottom.
Due to the nature of the claypot, it does take longer to get to a boiling point. But once it's boiling, it's also hard to stop because the claypot is powered with charcoal. 😂 What we can do is put in more meat, veggies, etc to slow down the boil. At one point, when the restaurant staff noticed that our ingredients on the plate is finished then they'll take away the charcoal to be reused for another customer.
We saw a restaurant not far from Hua Hin Night Market so we thought it's perfect choise. We'd have a bit meal and then check out the night market.
It's only about 6 pm when we got to the restaurant. I didn't know how lucky we were since we got a table right away. Later on a line started to form up. We ordered a set of pork jim jum which gave us a plate of sliced pork and a small plate of cut up napa cabbage. We saw chicken rice on Google review but apparently that's only for the morning. So in the morning when we passed by this restaurant, there were a few stalls in front of this restaurant that serves breakfast.
