Khao Tom Mee Na - Chiang Rai, Thailand

Another khao tom place ! Khao tom is rice porridge in Thai. Just like the other khao tom place that we have been to the last few weeks. This one also offers steam rice if rice porridge isn't your bowl of your rice. 😁

This restaurant has some picture menu as well though not as many as I would like them to. But from among the pictures available, hubby was able to pick out braised pork leg. Great choice ! Our friends collectively picked out a few more dishes. I haven't had a chance to pull out my phone to use Google translate and they were done. 😂

And just like that, all the dishes started flying to our table. Seriously, less than five minutes. Even for the steam fish order. But we all had a suspicion that the fish was prepared ahead and was just heated before being served to us. With all their efficiency, they did miss two of our orders ! 😕We didn't inquire about it since we noticed that we actually had about five dishes already.

Compared to the other khao tom places, the dishes here were more Chinese influenced. Other than the braised pork leg, we also ordered braised pork with preserved vegetables, deep fried sausage and salted egg in bean curd. Even the steamed fish was topped off with shredded ginger and soy sauce.

In general the dishes were delicious. The braised pork leg was flavorful and tender. The braised pork with preserved vegetables was done right. We have seen other restaurant totally butchered this dish. Do try this restaurant if you prefer more Chinese influenced dishes.
