Garden Terrace @ Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences - Genting, Malaysia
It rained pretty strong the evening we arrived at Genting, Malaysia. We stayed at Windmill Suites which is part of Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences. Since it's raining and we had three seniors in our group we felt that we should either do a take out or find a restaurant close by that didn't require walking up dark and slippery roads.
Earlier while waiting for our room to be ready we discovered a few possibilities for dining. One of them was Garden Terrace which served as a breakfast place for patrons of Swiss Garden Hotel. There's not much going on when we went to visit. But given the options we had we thought we still should give it a try.
There was only another table when we arrived there. I told myself that it didn't mean their food was not good. We've been to another hotel before and all the food was good though it was pretty quiet.
After we sat down we were given a piece of paper menu with pictures. Their menu was pretty small. We pretty much only had a hand full of options available. A few of us chose char kway teow (stir fry rice noodle). When in Malaysia, one should try char kway teow. I chose beef burger. Another person in our group chose noodle with gravy. There was hot pot on their menu but was not available for ordering. 😕
Other than the guy taking our orders which was the same guy working at the register and being the host. There was another guy in open kitchen and perhaps another guy at the back kitchen. The guy in the open kitchen looked quite skillful with his big fire and wok, that's why some of us decided to order the char kway teow.
It turned out that that guy in the open kitchen was the only guy cooking. So it took a long time for us to get our food. As he first worked on the char kway teow. Once that's done then he worked on the next order and so on and so forth.
That would have worked out fine for us had the food was decent. The char kway teow was very dark from sweet soy sauce. No wok hey and on the salty side. They were pretty generous with the big prawns though, as you can see on the photos. The fried rice had generous side dishes of satay and fried chicken as well. I think that one was the most decent. My beef burger came with fries. But the beef patty was thin and was the commercial beef patty. Thin and most likely not all beef.
That was the only time we ate there. Every meals after that was better than that first meal. 😎
