Baba Phang 峇峇之家 - Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
This restaurant was recommended by a Grab driver on our way to Chowrasta market in Georgetown, Penang. Since it's also close by to the market so we spent time browsing the market, trying out Teochew chendul then walked to the restaurant.
Baba Phang is a nyonya cuisine restaurant. For those who are not familiar with nyonya cuisine. It is a fusion cuisine between Chinese and Malay. Nyonya cuisine was born from the assimilation of Chinese and Malay.
The restaurant wasn't that big but and luckily it wasn't that busy when we went in. We were straight away seated and handed menus. We each contributed what to order and soon we had a few items to order. I feel that when we travelled as a group it's easy to over order. Especially when we were hungry. 😉
Among what we ordered were nyonya steam grouper, tau ewe bak, lor bak and kapitan chicken. Almost all the dishes were delicious. We especially enjoyed the fish. The tau ewe bak was great as well. A bit on the sweet side maybe. Kapitan chicken was just right combination of chicken and potatoes.
We wanted to order kuih pai tee but it's not available. Too bad because my family has never tried kuih pai tee before and was curious about it. The sotong curry was nice too. Not too spicy and perfect to go with rice. They even offered to get the enough prawn for everyone in the group when we ordered assam prawn.
