Khao-So-i ข้าวโซอิ

We are trying to expand our khao soi experience since we'll be in Chiang Mai for a few months. Khao soi is a curry noodle from northern part of Thailand so Chiang Mai would be a good place to try out khao soi.

In the past I have only tried chicken khao soi and I wasn't keen on it since the chicken was a bit tasteless in my opinion. Apparently the meat is usually cooked separately then put together when an order is placed. Somehow the chicken drumstick used was overly cooked.

But ever since I tried the beef khao soi I actually enjoyed it. So I was looking forward to try different khao soi restaurant. This Khao-So-i came on our radar and we decided to give it a try.

When we got there there were a lot of people waiting in the area outside the restaurant. There's also a parking lot close to the restaurant so parking should not be an issue. When we approached the host, she placed us on the wait list and gave us a buzzer. The wait time wasn't long before we got buzzed.

The dining area was small and intimate. The whole decor inside and outside was Japanese theme. From the story posted outside, the restaurant was started by Win and Opal. Win was a Japanese chef in US and Opal used to live in Japan. Voila, they both put their heads together and came a Japanese themed khao soi restaurant.

Other than dining area and decor, the dishes and utensils were also very Japanese. I love their dishes. They are so cute. Each of the order came on a tray with the condiments put on separate containers. So Japanese. 😍

The beef khao soi was delicious. The broth was rich and thick. I noticed there was not much broth provided but it's very rich. The beef shank was tender. Hubby got the combination of chicken and pork khao soi. The chicken was cut thigh meat with burnt mark. I saw the chefs using their blowtorch on some of the orders, mostly chicken.

We had a side dish of boiled dumpling. The dumplings were huge and succulent. Juicy and delicious. Worth a try for the experience.
