Rempah Bistro - Sentul, Indonesia
It's funny that we almost walked into one of this Rempah Bistro location when we were in Bandung. But then given so many other options, our group decided on other restaurant. Then, a friend invited me to lunch. And I enjoyed the food there so I decided to bring my family there. The chance arose when we were in Vimala Hills, Bogor. We went to Aeon Mall in Sentul. This time I had my eyes on Rempah Bistro. 😍
It's slightly a bit earlier than lunch time so it's not too busy yet. There's an outdoor seating but we chose the aircon room. It wasn't super hot outside but outdoor seating also means smoking area and we didn't want our meal got disturbed by smoke.
I had in mind what I wanted to order based on my previous lunch there. But then my group also had what they wanted in mind. So in the end I could say that we over ordered ! Most likely not the first time and would not be the last time. 😁
We ordered jagung brondong, nasi kendil duo rempah, sate maranggi, ayam goreng galangal, soto koya lamongan and laksa nyonya batavia. I found jagung brondong in an interesting dish. It's a corn on the cob split into four lengthwise then deep fried and served sprinkled with some sweet salty seasoning.
Kendil is a earthen ware used to keep and cook dishes. In this case, nasi kendil is served on a kendil. Both presentation and taste received an eight from me. The one I tried before had salted fish in it. I wasn't sure my family liked the flavor so I tried the duo rempah nasi kendil which had a combination of beef rendang (caramelized beef in coconut milk and spices) and anchovies among other stuff like salted egg and braised egg. I feel that the presentation of this dish was amazing. Very colorful and pretty.
In general, the food we ordered were all yummy. Except for the nyonya laksa which hubby thought used the wrong type of noodle. The noodle they used was thick noodle that tasted like spaghetti. Didn't compliment the flavor of the broth.
