One Dim Sum - Jakarta, Indonesia
Visited this restaurant during the Idul Fitri long holiday. It was my first time spending Idul Fitri in Jakarta since I started living abroad. Hubby suggested to go to Bandung. I told him it's the best time to stay in Jakarta and enjoy jam free traffic.
It wasn't too crowded yet when we went there as it was earlier in the day. The menu was quite varied with a lot of choices for dimsum. From typical like shumai to less typical (for Indonesia standard) like char siu so (bbq puff pastry). There were a few different types of noodle like stir fry noodle, rice noodle and also fried rice. Or one may choose to try their rice vermicelli with fish head soup.
On our second visit, we tried rice vermicelli with fish head soup and also porridge. The rice vermicelli fish head soup was passable. It's milky broth was mild in flavor with pieces of deep fried fish. Not sure what type of fish used but it seemed small as we got the head, body and tail. The portion was not big probably just right for two people and a bit stretching for four people.
The porridge though should be avoided. It's not HK style porridge where it's more liquid but starchy. This porridge was very thick and the topping was on a separate plate. It looked a bit pathetic though. Easily the worst porridge we ever had at a dimsum restaurant.
Recommended : kai cak steam, which is a steamed tofu skin wrapped with filling of ground pork and shrimp. Also try lobak xo. This is not the traditional lobak pan fried cake but more of a cut lobak cake then stir fry with dried salted mustard (caipo) with chili, green onion and bean sprout.
