Banana Leaf in Kitsilano
This restaurant has been a long time favorite in our big family in Vancouver. There's no wonder that this time we made our way there for lunch.
It was a bit late in the day for lunch and it was weekday so the restaurant was pretty quiet. We got a few tables joined enough for ten of us. We ordered from their tasting menu - two of each. Two is the minimum order for each of the tasting menu.
In the past we have tried from the 7 course tasting menu. Not bad, it covers most of their signature dishes like beef rendang, sambal green beans, roti canai, caramelized ginger fish with pandan coconut panna cotta as dessert. This time I found out about another tasting menu which covers more of their seafood dishes. This menu included black pepper chili garlic prawns, lobster tail seafood gulai, crispy curry fried oyster
There's an overlap of these two tasting menu. I was a bit confused at the time as to why we got two plates of beef rendang. Later on I looked at the tasting menu again and realized that beef rendang is one of the dishes that overlap. Another one would be chicken satay. Yet another favorite. So next time if you are visiting Banana Leaf, give the tasting menu a try. Even for a big group like us, we did okay with tasting menu and then ordered additional dishes.
