Xan Ling Segambut - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
While we were in Malaysia this time, we were invited for an afternoon with our niece and her spouse. They wanted to share with us their secret favorite restaurant. It's located in Kuala Lumpur area. It took about 45 minutes to get there from where we stayed in Petaling Jaya. There were heavy traffic in some spots.
The restaurant is located near to Bamboo Hills, a newly established area with padel courts and plenty of restaurants. The restaurant was most likely established a while ago. It's a bit off track from rows of shops next to an unfinished high rise.
There was an outdoor section of the restaurant but we chose an indoor portion with air condition. It was pretty hot that day. Sitting outdoor even with fans will not be very comfortable.
We looked at the simple menu. We were told that their specialties are porridge and noodle. Both were ordered along with other dishes but we were asked which vegetables would like to order. Hubby chose sweet potato leaf.
The porridge came first. The rice grains still intact unlike the Hongkong style congee which tends to be thick and sticky. This porridge looked like rice soup with smoked mussel and ribs. The flavor was savory and sweet from the seafood used.
The noodle was huge. I heard that it's a one person portion but seriously it was enough for all five of us especially in combination with the rice soup. We also had fried meat ball, stir fry sweet potato leaves and braised chicken feet.
The chicken feet were so tender. But I must say that those were not the best chicken feet I have tried. I sort of dislike the herbal taste it came with maybe from the spices they used. The broth was thick and flavorful. Totally could use it again and just dropped some tofu and egg.
