Pan Fried Pork Buns 生煎包
I got to know these pan fried pork buns a couple of years ago and they blew my mind away. They reminded me of a combination of gyoza and pork buns. Hmm.. that got you thinking huh ?? Yup..it's that good. Crunchiness on the bottom of the buns where they touch the wok and soft dough on top like steam pork bun. And the juicy pork filling makes these buns way better than their cousin the soup dumpling. Hubby said these pan fried buns totally change his mind of the soup dumpling. The juicy pork filling is more satisfying than the smaller size of the soup dumpling.
Anyhow, my first encounter with pan fried buns was at Crystal Mall. But later on I found them at a few location in Richmond. 😋 Now if we feel like having them we don't even have to go all the way to Burnaby.
Shanghai Morning @ Aberdeen Centre Food Court
Located at the food court on the highest level of Aberdeen Centre this stall here is the place to get your pan fried pork buns fixed. At the cost of about $9 you get 5 hot pan fried pork buns with a vinegary dipping sauce. Be careful eating these bad boys. They are hot especially the juicy filling. I like to eat it like the way we eat the soup dumpling, slowly bite into the bun to make a small opening and slowly and carefully suck the soup out. It's hot ! Once you're done with the soup then you could slowly break the bun apart to cool it off.
The buns at this stall are really crunchy on the bottom. Like they were really pan fried to a nice brown crust. That's what add the flavor. But these buns were also a bit more oily because you need oil to create the crust. But hey, don't eat these every day and we will all be fine. 😉😉
