An Unforgettable Lion Dance Experience - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Once settled at the Amari Kuala Lumpur, the neighboring Gardens Mall beckoned. We stepped into a sprawling atrium bathed in light and alive with activity. It was a choreographed chaos of weekend shoppers and families, all woven together by the celebratory decor and the distant, melodic clatter of a busy Sunday afternoon.
Our tummies have been asking for attention. We haven't had a proper meal since we left Jakarta this morning. So many selections, so many choices. First world problem that's not easy to solve. *sigh*
Moving away from the center of the buzz, we arrived at a more quiet part of the mall. A noodle shop attracted us with their selection of noodle. We stepped in and found ourselves a table. A waiter brought us a piece of paper with QR code printed on it. Two menu booklets arrived at the same time. I like this idea of combining high tech and traditional way of food ordering.
We ordered homemade pan mee and chinese dumpling with rice noodle. The restaurant front face is not big but it took up the back space of the adjacent shops to form a L shape. As we waited for our orders, more people arrived. Surprisingly there were others like us enjoying early dinner.
We enjoyed our meal and continued to different part of the mall looking for dessert. Hubby liked his noodle and wanted to go back some other time. Two bowls of noodle and a hot drink set us back RM 48.35 (USD12.43 / CAD 16.95). Cheap for western standard but has a premium tag to it compared to mom and pop shops outside the mall.
We went back to upper level of the mall and noticed a lot of people gathered in the center atrium. As we moved closer we realized that they were all waiting for something. A few metal poles were already set up a few feet apart from each other. Lion dance on pole ! Yay! I have watched this type of performance on video before but never live. It's going to be super exciting.
We waited for another fifteen minutes before the show actually started. It's a show worth waiting for. There were total of two lion moving effortlessly on the pole, dancing with each other. They looked like two giant kittens playing on tree branches. Jumping from one branch to another. The energetic drums and cymbals accompanying their play made the whole performance complete. The show ended with the last lion somersaulted from a pole back to the ground. Wow !
