#3 Restaurant @ River Rock Casino - Richmond, BC

It's been a while since we last visited River Rock Casino. In fact I couldn't think of last time we went there, so it could be more than a year. This time we went I noticed the food court area of the casino had been upgraded. The first restaurant seemed like a sit down restaurant now with a waiter actually sat us down and brought us menus.

I noticed the lady that worked there and the chef were the same people. So I had hopes that the food tasted the same. We ordered wonton soup, Yang Chow fried rice and sauteed green bean with pork Sichuan style. But then the waiter came back and notified us that they were out of green bean. For alternative I picked stir fry green cabbage with chili and ginger.

The wonton soup looked and tasted similar to Hong Kong style wonton that we had before in Hong Kong. The difference would probably be the few strands of bok choy that was thrown in there for color. My father-in-law who loves spicy food asked for chili paste. With chili paste the wonton tasted better.

We frequently take my in-laws here every time we visit Vancouver. The Yang Chow fried rice tasted similar to what I remembered it to be. Fragrant from both the pork fat and the high heat of the wok. It's tasty and sinful combination at the same time.

The green cabbage stir fry was something new. This restaurant has extended its menu from maybe like fifteen items to more options now. See the link for menu at the end of this post. The stir fry though good and felt healthy with a bit heat to it was completely ruined by the amount of oil (or lard ?) used. It's so glistening and dripping with oil that I couldn't bring myself to finish the plate though I love my veggies.

The 4 star I gave this place was solely for the Yang Chow fried rice. It's way better than the Kirin Restaurant on Broadway.
