Sweet Basil - San Jose

We accidentally found out this place when we were going to a pho place at the same shopping mall. I think it used to be another Vietnamese restaurant. There was a big grand opening sign banner outside so we decided to stop by and take a look. There was big sign of menu posted on the wall sort of like fast food place. But this one comes with pictures.

Hubby was craving Thai style stir fry noodle which I thought wasn't available. But as I was checking out what other patrons were eating I saw it on the table. So we decided to stay and gave it a try. I ordered a pad see ew (Thai style stir fry wide rice noodle) and a papaya salad/bbq chicken rice combo for me. The total came to $15 something which was quite a deal.

TGI Sushi - Campbell

Met up with a friend here for lunch a few days ago. It received good reviews on Yelp so I was curious too to give it a try.

I got there early before 12 so the place was still quiet. It's a small cozy place with around six tables and some sushi bar sitting area that fits around ten people. There was a wait list clipboard outside so I guess they could get busy too. My friend still nowhere to be found so I asked for a menu to look at ahead of time.

As the name suggests they do have a long list of sushi roll, nigiri style and wrap. If sushi is not what you want for lunch, opt for bento box. Their bento boxes run around $12 just pick two items out of a list of items like chicken teriyaki, gyoza, etc.

Teochew Style Braised Meat

This dish was one of the dishes that I enjoyed growing up. Recently I thought of it and craved it. Due to time difference, instead of calling my mom I decided to search on the internet for the recipe. Thanks to recipe from Kelly Siew that day I was able to satisfy my tummy. Below is the recipe adapted from that recipe (combined with my mom's). I never really measure the ingredients when I cook so most of the measurements are very rough. Sorry.

Ma Ma Chen's Kitchen - Cupertino



This place was our last minute choice after a recital on late Saturday evening. By the time we were done, it was already 8:30 pm. Most of the restaurants that we know unfortunately close at 9. What a bummer. And our friend said that she heard of this Chen Mama restaurant in Cupertino that was better than Liang Mama (aka Liang's Village). I did a quick google search and found it on Yelp. So of we went.

Turtle Tower Restaurant - San Francisco

We stopped by this restaurant after the visit to Asian Art Museum. As soon as we walked in we ran into bunch of people waiting at the tiny area by the door. I pushed past to the front to see if there was any wait list. I put my name on it and went back out to check out the menu posted outside.

The restaurant wasn't that big. There were tables that seemed to be waiting for their food. There were like four groups ahead of us and it took around twenty minutes to get a table.

We ordered chicken pho (pho ga) and spring rolls. The restaurant specializes in Northern style noodle soup which uses wider noodle and no bean sprouts.
