Tandoori Flame - Surrey, BC

plate of chaat
It's been a while since we have had Indian food. In fact we haven't quite had some ever since we moved to Vancouver. The closest we had was the ready-made in a pouch Indian fare from Trader Joe's which we picked up on our monthly trip to Bellingham, Washington.

So when our friends told us about this Indian buffet that supposedly has the biggest selection in North America we were like yes let's check it out. So we picked a weekday and made our way to Surrey. The restaurant is located at the corner on a strip mall.

When we walked in there were quite a few tables occupied. We were pretty early and made it there before 12 pm. The inside was way spacious than it looked outside. It's nicely decorated in a way that made us feel that we were in one of the hotel in Vegas enjoying their buffet.

So we started a long their buffet line. One corner had all the appetizer I guess consisted of egg roll, samosa, french fries and onion ring. Then there was the chaat corner if I'm not mistaken. I am still learning the Indian cuisine. The next one was the deep fried items of chicken pakora, fish pakora and some veggie pakora. The vegetarian items consisted of  six dishes with the white rice next to it. While the non-vegetarian items consisted of four dishes with the chicken biryani rice next to it. There was also a salad bar and soups. And for the kids who may be missing pizza there was also pizza available. Dessert consisted of eight different types of ice cream with a few other selection of cakes.
Nice decor (?) not sure if one could actually use these spices

Vegetarian selection

I must say that I was impressed with the selections and varieties available. Tandoori Flame easily is the biggest Indian buffet I had been to. And the flavor was wonderful too. I only tried the aloo gobi (cauliflower dish) from the vegetarian section. It's very tasty and well seasoned. The non-vegetarian dishes I tried were lamb curry, goat curry and another one which I don't remember now. Both the lamb and goat still had the gamey smell but in general pretty good.

I tried some of the chaat too by looking at the other guests on how to prepare them. They tasted very refreshing and a good break from the rich dishes.
salad bar

non-vegetarian selection - closes one was butter chicken

bowl of different ice cream flavors

All in all we all enjoyed the meal. The lunch buffet cost CAD17.99 before tax which I thought was still a decent price. And by the time we were almost finished the restaurant was very busy with groups of people coming. Some of them looked like office workers.
