On a rainy day we decided to go searched for that Thai Luong on Kingsway and found out that it has moved. I guess the Yelp page was outdated. Google search actually showed a different address which I think it's a new address.
Anyhow we followed our trail all the way to Fraser. The place was tiny with less than ten tables. When we went in a group just left but the table wasn't tidied up yet so we got a tiny table by the door. Later on we moved ourselves since one of our chair was too close to the big group table next to us.
The menu was simple and it still showed the old address on Kingsway. Ha ! It is the same restaurant. I chose the beef pho noodle soup and hubby chose the chicken pho noodle soup. We also ordered a Hanoi style spring roll.
When our bowls came out my first disappointment was the noodle was thin. Northern style pho should be using the wider noodle. Hubby's chicken pho wasn't boneless. That was the second disappointment. There are not too many noodle places that offer chicken pho but most of them serve it with boneless chicken. So we were surprised to see the chicken pieces on hubby's bowl.
The positive side was my beef pho had lots of meat which I gladly shared with hubby. Though some of the supposedly flank steak was pretty fat. On the other hand hubby's bowl had few pieces of chicken with bones. Which after he deboned them left him with not much protein. Sad.
My beef broth wasn't too exciting. A bit bland and not much spices tasted. The only thing that saved the restaurant that day was the spring roll. It was indeed Hanoi style and we enjoyed it.
It's too bad that they decided to change their style. I guess our search of the northern style pho continues.
