The place was located on one of the street of Takayama, far from other shops or restaurants. It was a tiny restaurant with a few bar seatings, one tatami table and maybe another regular table in the back. I think total customers couldn't be more than 15.
When we walked in there were some people who just left. So we took the bar seats. As usual they tried to speak Japanese to us but then realized that we don't speak Japanese. The owner/chef then explained in English to us that they only served curry - beef and mushroom curry. He even told us the price too. I guess some people must have gone in thinking that they served other dishes other than curry.
So we ordered a beef and a mushroom curry. And we watched the crews - the owner and another two more ladies - worked the kitchen in front of us. The smell was wonderful and we got more hungry by the minute. So when the food was finally presented to us we just couldn't wait to dig in.
The owner, a guy probably in the early 40s is a native of Takayama. He learned to make curry when he went to work in Sapporo. Then he went back and started his own business.
The curry though not pretty but very tasty. Both beef and mushroom came with lots of sauce to go with rice. The curry also came with a few stick of steamed carrot and a piece of fried potato which gave a very nice texture to the curry. There was also some crunchy green powder which tasted like crushed nori seaweed.

We went there a few weeks ago! So glad they're still there 5 years later. They still let people know right away they only serve curry - we had the same thought that they probably get people who expect other kinds of dishes. We had beer and a couple of dishes - mine was with tonkatsu (fried panko pork cutlet). It was yummy! The curry has a deep flavor to it. The place has a few tables in the front where you take off your shoes and step up into to sit but you need to have reserved ahead of time. For walk-ins, they have 2 tables in the back that fit 2 people each - it's a small area with a little heater since we where there during winter. The place has a really cool and interesting vibe. The menu is looked rustic and is only in Japanese (we used Google Translate). Japanese rock music was playing while we were there. Prices were decent - not too expensive. We would go back.
