Whistler Samurai Bowl - Whistler, BC

We drove up to Whistler during last Canada Day long weekend with some friends. Last minute found out this place when we were deciding on a lunch spot. My friend found this place and suggested to us. Since we were stuck in the traffic and may take at least another 30 minutes to reach Whistler Village.

It's a small restaurant on one of a strip mall along with a Subway and a few more shops. Parking lot was sort of tiny. We were glad that it wasn't too busy then so both our cars had no issue finding parking.

Their menu was more Japanese inspired cuisine like ramen, udon, teriyaki bowl and chicken karaage. One could customize with different protein and topping like spicy sauce. But surprisingly in between Japanese inspired menu we saw Vietnamese pho noodle soup. Curious we decided to order a bowl of miso ramen with spicy kimchee and a bowl of beef pho just for varieties and comparison.

The ramen came with two slices of pork and about less than half a cup of kimchee. It also had corn and some chopped green onion. The color of the broth was brown with a bit of orange from the kimchee. One taste of the broth and I thought hey this ramen is not bad. The broth was pretty deep of flavor. The noodle wasn't too thin and not thick with the right bounciness to it.

Unfortunately we couldn't say the same with the Vietnamese beef pho. The broth tasted too natural to me and not enough umami to it. It's hard to make soup without MSG and unfortunately (in my opinion) that the pho broth was lacking MSG. It's passable but not as flavorful as the ramen.

Considering the location, I would definitely go back if we are in the area.
