Easy Loaf of Bread

Yeast is still hard to come by. I still held on to my last half pack of yeast waiting for a good opportunity to use it on. But finally I gave in and decided to try making a loaf of bread.

Found the following recipe from a YouTube video by Joshua Weissman - How To Make Supermarket Bread. The ingredients seemed simple enough. The following recipe is my slightly modified version.

Ingredients :
3/4 cup (174 gr) warm water (37℃ or 98℉)
1/2 cup (125 gr) warm whole milk (same temperature)
1 pack (9 gr) yeast
3 cups (440 gr) bread flour (notes : I used all purpose flour with some oatmeal flour)
1/2 ts (2.5 gr) salt
1 tbs (21 gr) sugar
3 tbs (45 gr) butter (softened)
1 pan 9 x 5 x 2.75 inch

Method :

Mix the warm water, milk and yeast together. Stir to dissolve yeast. Cover and set aside for 10 minutes.

Mean while, use a big bowl and mix together flour, sugar and salt. Use a whisk to mix them well. Pour the water/milk/yeast mixture a little bit at a time to this flour mixture. Use a spatula or your clean hand to mix it. Once all the liquid has been incorporated into the flour mixture, take the flour mixture onto a clean surface. Use your hand to knead this mixture for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Set the dough in a bowl that has been oiled. Cover with shrink wrap and set it in a nice warm area.

I like putting my dough bowl in a cold oven with a pot of boiled water. It helps the dough to rise faster.

Wait for 1- 1.5 hour until the dough double in size. Mean while butter up your loaf pan.

Once the dough size has doubled. Punch the dough to release the gas and bring it onto a clean surface. Use a rolling pin to roll it out into a dough the size of the width of your loaf pan. In this case - 9 inch.

Then roll up the dough to a log and drop it into your buttered up loaf pan. Cover with the shrink wrap and let it rise for another hour.

Once it's almost one hour, preheat the oven to 350 ℉. When the oven is ready, put in the loaf pan to bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.

Then take it out of the pan and let it cool on a cooling rack. Use caution handling the hot bread.
