Trying Anywheel Bicycle Rental - Chiang Mai, Thailand

This time in Chiang Mai we got to try bicycle sharing Anywheel. We saw these bicycles for rent before last time when we were in Chiang Mai. It didn't dawn on us to try it. But this time we explored bigger areas. While walking is possible, using bicycles help us get there and back faster. Also saves us energy.

Renting it was easy as well. Download the Anywheel application. Pick the correct country as Anywheel is also available in Singapore. Sign up for an account with Anywheel then top up your credit. I only top up THB 100 (USD 2.97). That should last a while if you only use it around the neighborhood as THB 20 will last you 30 minutes.

When you are ready to rent, the application will tell you where is the bicycles available near your area. The green bicycle icon shows the available bicycles and the P icon shows the return spots. Bicycles have to be returned at certain marked area only. This areas will have a QR code available for you to scan to return your bicycle.

Scan the QR code on the bicycle to start your rental. This QR code is near the back wheel and the handle of the bicycle. Allows a few minutes for the lock to unlock. Then you are ready to start your journey.

If you need to stop somewhere temporarily but not ready to return the bicycle yet, you could use the temporary parking option. Note that this is only up to 6 hours and the time is still counted as your trip. After 6 hours you would be charged a fee to relocate the bicycle.

Give it a try. We thought to just give it a try. But we ended up using it a few times more than we thought we would. It's convenient and fun. Note that bicycle helmets were not provided. If you think you needed one, please purchase one.
