Bún bò, bún riêu, bò kho Phượng Lan 2009
One thing I found a bit difficult while travelling and spending a lot of time in Asia is looking for food. In Asia (Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam) some restaurants only open certain time of the day. Let's say noodle soup like pho restaurants in Dalat only opens up to lunch time. Perhaps it's a breakfast item. In Malaysia, some kopitiam only open until 3 pm. That's because a lot of them open at 6 am. In Thailand, certain food like grilled fish is only sold in the evening.
We found this neighborhood restaurant as we were looking for dinner. There were some restaurants in our hotel vicinity that we tried already but the food was a bit heavy like hot pot. We were looking for pho noodle soup king of thing. Since the one in our neighborhood was already closed for the day so we walked into this one.

As the name suggested, their menu has varieties of noodle soups. From bun bo which is a lemon grass broth based with rice noodle and beef. Bun rieu is rice noodle soup with crab and bo kho is beef stew. I ordered a bun bo and hubby ordered a bo kho with rice noodle.
Within minutes we received our orders. The broth was flavorful. This was probably my second encounter with bun bo and I started to like it more. As much as pho. Pho broth was more meaty with light hint of onion and star anise. Bun bo on the other hand sometimes comes with extra like blood. So some may not be ready for that.
