Food in Dali Ancient Town - Dali, China
The day we arrived in Dali we had a light lunch which was sauerkraut fish with rice. After we finished enjoying our room, we went to check the old town. We passed by this newly opened restaurant and we stopped by to look long enough for them to pull us in. 😂
I love their posted picture menu which was very enticing. So we ended up ordering some snacks. A drink that tasted very familiar, some glutinous ball and plum drink.
From there we walked around some more before settling down for Crossing Bridge Noodle. This noodle is one special dish that one visiting Yunnan has to try. Without trying it's almost haven't been to Yunnan. We love trying new dish so we thought we should try.
This restaurant we went to was a small mom and pop restaurant so the noodle dish was "only" RMB 40 (USD 5.58). The owner asked whether we wanted all cooked together or plated separately. She said for photo taking it's best to show the items separately. But cooked together would have better flavor. We opted for separate items shown just for photo taking first. 😋
The following taken from Wiki : Crossing-the-bridge noodles (过桥米线, Guòqiáo mǐxiàn) originated during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912) in Mengzi, Yunnan. The most widely cited legend describes a scholar studying on an isolated island, whose wife would deliver meals to him daily. To keep the broth hot during her journey across a bridge, she devised a method of insulating it with a layer of chicken fat, while keeping raw ingredients separate to cook in the broth upon arrival. This practice is said to have inspired the dish's name and modern preparation style.
