Dapoer Pandan Wangi - Bandung, Indonesia

We heard of this restaurant from a friend. On our last visit we didn't have a chance to try it. It happened that when I was looking up restaurants for our Bandung trip, this name showed up. It's time to give it a try.

This location of Dapoer Pandan Wangi is on a big street. There are limited parking inside the gate but there are some spots by the road side still pretty safe to park since it's space meant for parking. When we arrived at the restaurant it's way passed lunch time so actually we could have parked inside but when unsure, just be safe and we parked outside.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the door and asked how many people on our group and whether we wanted smoking or non-smoking area. I was pretty impressed with that. I have been to restaurants that have plenty of employees but no designated greeter or host to sit patrons.

Once we looked at the menu we realized that their menu is pretty simple. Not much seafood. I don't remember if there was any prawns but there was no chicken satay and no squid. We finally ordered fried gourami fish, a few pieces of chicken in both grilled and cooked in spices (ayam ungkep). We also ordered a plate of perkedel (Dutch origin potato fritters) and tempeh bacem (tempeh cooked in spices). On last thought I ordered lontong kari which is a rice cake dish served with curry broth.

I personally thought there was nothing special about the food. Simple food but I have found this type of food at other restaurant. To say that it's Sundanese food was not entirely correct as I am pretty sure lontong kari is not Sundanese. From my Google search, ayam ungkep is a combination of Malaysian and Indonesian origin.

Total bill came out to IDR 364100 (USD 22) before service charge. Very decent price for a meal of four people. I guess it's good value but in term of taste I have tasted better.
