Torikizoku - Shibuya, Tokyo - Japan

One of the food that I really wanted to try on this trip was yakitori - grilled meat on skewers. Yakitori is usually served as a companion to alcohol so I was curious but since I'm not a drinker I wasn't sure if we would try it. Also from a lot of reading and researching a lot of yakitori places are tiny and run by one person with mostly Japanese menu. That was intimidating.

But then I found out about Torikizoku which is a yakitori chain restaurant with English menu ! And supposedly most of the items are 280 yen (USD 2.55). That sounded like a good deal. There were at least 2 locations I found - Shinjuku and Shibuya.

We went to the one in Shibuya. It was located on like 5th floor of a building that had a few restaurants. We saw the sign from far but when we got closer we couldn't see the entrance. It took a good 10 mins with looking around to finally locate the small entrance to the building with a non discreet sign posted on the road side.

When we walked in though the restaurant was pretty big though the seatings were quiet close to each other. The wooden tables and benches gave a warm and cozy feel. We ordered from a tablet on the table. The menu wasn't really in English but it had pictures so we could sort of guess. Most of yakitori skewers are made of chicken and we don't really have any religious diet restriction.

I ordered skewers with soy sauce and plain (with salt). I also ordered some stuffed bell pepper and chicken hearts. And just to make sure we also got some carb I ordered some bbq chicken on bowl of rice. We didn't order any alcoholic drinks and just settled with soda.

Most of the order came with 2 skewers so it was perfect for me and hubby. Everything was yummy though the chicken hearts was a bit chewy but it was expected. We ordered some raw cabbage to balance out the protein and to give it a bit crunch. The cabbage was supposed to be free refill but we didn't need it since we were already full. Total spent 2750 yen (USD25).
