pad kee mao (drunken noodle) - stir fry rice noodle with basil |
We got there around 6 pm on Saturday and the restaurant was like half full. We were waiting to be seated but the waitress just told us to grab whatever table ourselves. She then brought us the menu and asked if we would like any drinks other than water. We declined the offer and went to study the menu instead. One of the reviews on Yelp mentioned of khao soi - a northern style Thai curry noodle so we decided to try that. And then I ordered the drunken noodle (pad kee mao) which was also recommended on one of the reviews.
The restaurant was located on a strip mall sharing parking lot with Subway, a laundromat and a few other stores. The interior looked new and clean. The seating booths were made of light color wood looking material with matching color tables. Not exactly very comfortable for sitting long period of time but low maintenance and easy to clean up.
We got our food within less than 15 minutes. The khao soi broth was pretty thick and rich. It had some deep fried shredded thingy which we could not quite figure out. Hubby said it wasn't the same as the one he had in Chiangrai. Nevertheless he liked this version too.

My drunken noodle (pad kee mao) was made with fresh wide rice noodle which was quite a surprise. Knowing those type of noodle is not easy to find normally. But their version of noodle was a bit chewy so I doubted that it was made with rice. Perhaps mixed with some starch. But the dish was so tasty I quickly forgot about the rice noodle. It's that good.
We both asked for our orders to be meatless. And we were offered tofu and veggies as replacement. As it turned out we did not miss the meat at all. We will definitely stop by again.
