Hawker's Delight Deli - Vancouver, BC

mee goreng (Malaysian style fried noodle)
Just happened to search for Malaysian food around Vancouver and came across this tiny restaurant on Main Street. Hubby was going to meet up with some friends and was looking for a place so we decided to give it a try first.

It was a hot day with temperature around 29C (84F) so when we walked in the restaurant it was pretty warm. The place was kinda tiny with like a handful of tables pretty close to each other. There was no AC and it was open air with a fan blowing. There was an opening where we could see the kitchen and a lady was sitting there taking order. There were some pictures posted inside the restaurant almost like a fast food menu. But we already looked at their take out menu posted outside.

We ordered a char koay teow (fried rice noodle), Hainamese chicken rice and mee goreng (Malaysian style fried noodle). It took about ten minutes to get our order. It really wasn't that long since we were just hanging outside the restaurant looking at people.
Hainamese chicken rice

Out of the three dishes, the hainamese chicken rice was the best. The rice was fragrant and moist and the chicken was boneless ! It's really hard to get boneless chicken served with Hainamese chicken rice in US. So we were delighted to see this. Chili sauce could be improved. Normally this type of chicken rice is served with garlic ginger chili sauce that tasted a bit tangy with some dark sauce on the side. But the chili sauce here was pretty bland.
char koay teow (fried rice noodle)

The char koay teow was passable because it didn't have the caramelized burnt smell (some people call wok hei). And the taste was not strong enough. The mee goreng was a disappointment. It was pretty bland. I was expecting it to be more on a sweeter side but found none of that.
