Tenaga Ashinaga - Takayama, Japan

Takayama is popular for its Hida beef which supposedly better than the famous Kobe beef. So we were trying to incorporate that beef into our meal. Hopefully without breaking the bank.

We found this restaurant Tenaga Ashinaga that got good reviews on TripAdvisor. So we thought we gave it a try. The restaurant was still pretty quiet when we arrived at 6 pm. We got a booth table and presented English menu with pictures. I ordered a hamburger steak set and hubby ordered a ramen set with grilled Hida beef on the side.



I have seen hamburger steak on a Youtube video before and was curious to find out what it tasted like. The hamburger steak was served on a cast iron plate with a sunny side up on the side on top of caramelized onion rings. My combo also came with miso soup, salad and some pickled veggie. The hamburger steak tasted just like burger patty but a thicker version. It's delicious but I just felt that it was missing buns.

Hubby's ramen looked pretty plain actually compared to other ramen that we have tasted so far in Japan. The taste was okay maybe because this restaurant didn't specialize in ramen. The grilled Hida beef was just fine in my opinion. It wasn't mind blowing. Or maybe I was expecting too much ?
