Rojiura Curry Samurai - Sapporo, Japan

There are a few videos on Youtube about Sapporo and the food. One of the food that intrigued us was the soup curry. Like many food in Japan, once it's popular it's spreading. I actually found soup curry in Osaka as well. But since we're going to Sapporo, I thought it's best to save it till later.

Rojiura Curry Samurai has a few locations in Sapporo. The one we went to was the Tanukikoji since we stayed pretty close to the area. We went there a bit earlier for dinner to beat the crowd. Look for the door with the sign and don't be surprised to see a staircase once the door is opened. Just climb up to the second floor. Once we got up there we were directed to third floor.
Third floor felt cozy and felt like someone's living room. We chose 20 veggies curry with coconut milk and crispy chicken curry. I liked the crispy texture on the curry. It's different from like Thai or South East Asian curries where everything was cooked in a pot. Even on the 20 veggies curry, some of the veggies was fried to give it a different texture.

All in all we enjoyed the curry. I think the difference between this soup curry and the regular curry was the texture. The regular curry tends to be like the other curry I know with everything in the pot. While this soup curry was less sauce and the veggies got texture. Which now reminded me of the curry we had in Takayama. The owner of the restaurant told us that he used to work in Sapporo. Maybe that's why his curry had a bit different flare to it. Interesting.
